JANUARY 5, 2018 BOOK GROUP TOPIC:  “THE MINDFUL THERAPIST

At our LB-SB CAMFT Book Group meeting on Friday, January 5, 2018, we will be discussing the topic of “The Mindful Therapist.”  The discussion will focus primarily on the book The Mindful Therapist – A Clinician’s Guide to Mindsight and Neural Integration by Daniel J. Siegel.  You are also welcome to share any other therapy-related book you have read that relates to this topic of cultivating our minds to be better therapists.

The following is a summary of The Mindful Therapist:

“Bringing mindfulness techniques to your psychotherapeutic work with clients.

An integrated state of mindful awareness is crucial to achieving mental health. Daniel J. Siegel, an internationally recognized expert on mindfulness and therapy, reveals practical techniques that enable readers to harness their energies to promote healthy minds within themselves and their clients. He charts the nine integrative functions that emerge from the profoundly interconnecting circuits of the brain, including bodily regulation, attunement, emotional balance, response flexibility, fear extinction, insight, empathy, morality, and intuition.

A practical, direct-immersion, high-emotion, low-techno-speak book, The Mindful Therapist engages readers in a personal and professional journey into the ideas and process of mindful integration that lie at the heart of health and nurturing relationships.”

We will meet on Friday, January 5, from 9:00 – 11:00 am at Coffee Cartel in Riviera Village (1820 S. Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach).  Those wanting to go out for lunch afterwards are welcome to do so!  Please come with your list of questions or comments about the content of the book; that will help us to actively keep a focus for the discussion.

For additional information and to RSVP (so we know how many to expect), please contact either Betsy McBride at bmcbridetherapy@aol.com or Jennifer Birner at  jb@jenniferbirner.com.

We look forward to sharing our discussion of The Mindful Therapist with you
