    Presentation Description/Summary: In this intermediate to advanced level training, attendees will learn about shame, shame resiliency and the relationships each has to the treatment process.  Through didactic and experiential methods, professionals will explore the origins of shame, its development, the ways that it can interfere with the therapeutic relationship and specific management techniques. 

    Workshop Objectives:  At the conclusion of this educational presentation, participants will be able to:

    • 1.     Identify three components of shame,
    • 2.     State two ways in which shame may interfere with the therapeutic relationship, and
    • 3.     Identify specific steps to managing shame in the treatment process.

    Bio: Lesli Maul, LCSW, CEDS-S, CDWF is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor, a Certified Daring Way Facilitator and a practitioner of Animal-Human Health.  Additionally, she has advanced trained in EMDR, Psychodrama and Sociometry.  She has been in the field of mental health for 26 years, the last 16 in private practice, working with individuals and families healing from eating disorders and trauma.  As an adult adoptee, Lesli has a special interest in the unique needs of the adopted and fostered, focusing primarily on early trauma and attachment styles.  She facilitates a monthly support group for fostered, adopted and donor conceived teens.  As a social worker and therapist, Lesli values the strength and resiliency that each individual brings to the therapeutic process.  Her commitment is to building vulnerability, connection and authenticity within all beings. 

     Meetings are now FREE for members who pre-register!

    Our meeting format has changed.  Presentations now will be 90 minute segments.  Here are the changes:

    •         8:30-9:00      Registration
    •      9:00-9:30      Networking
    •      9:30-11:00    Presentation/Educational Program (reduced from 2 hours to 1.5 hours)
    •     11:00-11:30  Informal Networking

    2.0 Continue education units will still be provided. There will be no breaks.

     The informal networking is not part of the CEU portion of the program. Participants and speakers may remain for questions if they wish or can simply network without any structure. You most certainly may announce that you are willing to stay during that time slot to address any questions. 



    Long Beach - South Bay CAMFT - APPROVAL NUMBER: PCE 3803 Course meets the qualifications for two (2) hours of continuing educationfor LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs, as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Refund Policy: With a 24-hour written notice, a full refund will be provided. With less than 24 hours' notice, credit towards attendance at a future education program course will be provided. Target Audience: This educational program is planned for marriage and family therapists, marriage and family therapy interns, social workers, counselors and/or educations psychologist. Special Needs Accommodations: In the event that special needs accommodations are required, please contact Sara Burchfiel at saraburchfielmft@gmail.com indicating your need at least one week prior to the educational program. Awarding Course Completion Certifications: LB-SB CAMFT monitors attendance with sign-in and sign-out sheets and final course evaluations. Once the participate have signed out and provided course evaluations, course completion certificates will be provided. Grievances: The Program Administrator (PA) and Board of Directors (BOD) will handle complaints or grievances and conduct investigations to determine the appropriate resolutions. The BOD and PA will respond within 48 hours of receiving the complaint and will provide timely fall-up to the participant during the course of investigation and resolution.
