    This is a 6 CEU credit Law and Ethics presentation and a required course for your 2 year license renewal. 

    Lunch provided.

    Presentation:

    David Jensen, J.D., will stress the importance of the psychotherapist's role as a creator of legal and ethical outcomes, whether for good or for ill. In particular, he will instruct attendees on the ten fundamentals of practicing legally, ethically, safely, and confidently. This course will also cover the important subjects of patients who are dangerous to third parties, and provide attendees with an overview of the BBS administrative hearing process.

    Learning Objectives:           

    1.     Recognize the importance of the psychotherapist's role and their effect on good or bad legal and ethical outcomes.

    2.     Identify the four fundamentals of practicing legally, ethically, safely and confidently.

    3.     Recognize the differences between the duty to warn, the duty to protect, and the duty to report.

    4.     Summarize the BBS administrative hearing process as it applies to therapy.

    David Jensen Bio:

    Jensen has been a Staff Attorney with CAMFT since April, 2002.  He was born in Flint, Michigan, “Go Tigers!,” but was raised in Tustin, California. 

    Dave graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s Degree in History, and he received his law degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California.  Thereafter, Dave passed the California bar examination in February, 1999, and he did it on his first try!  In 2016, Dave was awarded a Master of Liberal Studies degree (English concentration) from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.

    As an attorney with CAMFT, Dave consults with its members regarding their legal and ethical dilemmas and obligations, and he is a regular contributor to The Therapist magazine. 

    Dave gives numerous law and ethics presentations to chapters, schools, and agencies.

    Long Beach - South Bay CAMFT - APPROVAL NUMBER: PCE 3803 Course meets the qualifications for two (2) hours of continuing educationfor LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs, as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Refund Policy: With a 24-hour written notice, a full refund will be provided. With less than 24 hours' notice, credit towards attendance at a future education program course will be provided. Target Audience: This educational program is planned for marriage and family therapists, marriage and family therapy interns, social workers, counselors and/or educations psychologist. Special Needs Accommodations: In the event that special needs accommodations are required, please contact Sara Burchfiel at saraburchfielmft@gmail.com indicating your need at least one week prior to the educational program. Awarding Course Completion Certifications: LB-SB CAMFT monitors attendance with sign-in and sign-out sheets and final course evaluations. Once the participate have signed out and provided course evaluations, course completion certificates will be provided. Grievances: The Program Administrator (PA) and Board of Directors (BOD) will handle complaints or grievances and conduct investigations to determine the appropriate resolutions. The BOD and PA will respond within 48 hours of receiving the complaint and will provide timely fall-up to the participant during the course of investigation and resolution.
