Summary: In this intermediate level training, attendees will learn about EMDR as an evidence-based treatment for trauma from a neurobiological approach, how it is used with various populations and issues, and what cases benefit from this modality.  Through didactic and experiential methods, clinicians will explore why EMDR works and witness application with children and adults, viewing the EMDR protocol in practice and hearing sample cases.

    Objectives:

    1. Verbalize what happens in the brain during EMDR treatment
    2. Identify which cases and populations are good candidates for EMDR treatment
    3. Incorporate types of bilateral stimulation in their own practice

Ofra Obejas, LCSW, RPT (Registered Play Therapist), has been providing therapy for children and their families since 2006. She has experience with a spectrum of behavior difficulties, from working with teenagers labeled “severely emotionally disturbed” to children who are bullied, acting out, or have difficulty self-regulating. With specialized training in trauma, she helps children and adults recover from physical and sexual abuse.

Nora Taylor is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a private practice in South Redondo Beach, Ca.  She works with adolescents, adults, and couples. With over 10 years of experience in the mental health field, she integrates Attachment Focused EMDR with a variety of other therapeutic techniques to meet the specific needs of each individual client or couple.
